Why I Kickbox My Way into Being Healthy!

Kickboxing is all the rage and if you haven’t tried a class at your local gym or picked up a video and tried it at home, then you’re seriously missing out.

I don’t know about you, but life stresses me out. Throughout the day, we build up tension caused by our job, boss, friends and family, even ourself. And what better way to relieve that tension than to kick and punch something that can’t feel anything… or break? Our society teaches us to be gentle and caring creatures, especially us women. But when you take a kickboxing class, you’re expected to do the exact opposite by tapping into your inner animalistic instinct and letting those punches and kicks fly.

Think of it as a practice to keep your mental health in order. You’ll feel your stress, anger and frustration melt away and replaced by confidence and high self-esteem. When you put your body through strenuous exercise, your brain releases endorphins, also known as the “feel good” chemicals. Not only do endorphins relieve pain, they also induce feelings of euphoria and pleasure. These feelings will occur during your workout, but will also carry over into your daily life.

On top of the emotional and mental benefits, kickboxing has tons of physical advantages, as well. The high intensity aerobic exercises will burn more calories than just walking or jogging. And because kickboxing is a full body workout, your arms and legs will be toned before you know it.

Most moves involve engaging your core, which will improve coordination. And the constant movement of an hour-long class where you don’t get a minute of rest will improve flexibility and reflexes.

If that doesn’t convince you, think of the safety aspect of kickboxing. It may not be like a self-defense class, but it does teach you helpful and practical ways of protecting yourself. Not to mention, it sure as hell will make you feel like a bad-ass.

And speaking of bad-asses, another great benefit of taking a class rather than doing it at home is that you’ll meet other awesome ladies like yourself who are looking for a bit more than the typical calm yoga class.

So do yourself a favor; look up the closest kickboxing gym so you can kick and punch your stress away.
