What is it?

A strong preservative in your food, also used in embalming fluid, jet fuel and cosmetic packaging.

What is the problem?

The National Toxicology program classifies BHT as a reasonably anticipated human carcinogen, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says the same about BHA but still permits its use right now.

Where is it banned?

Partially banned in Europe since 2008. Only professional manufacturers can use these preservatives in certain fats and oils.
